Pinjore - Mughal Garden

A landscape conservation exercise which began with research and conceptualization for a significant Islamic garden that was designed by Aurangzeb’s foster brother in 1669 .This is a vibrant historic garden which underwent changes during the Patiala reign, British and Post Independence. It is nevertheless a fairly well preserved example of Mughal recreational gardens that came to be built in India.

Objective: Identified as an important source of revenue generation for Haryana Tourism; the site had the potential of being developed as a vibrant recreational site. The key areas:

• Revival and revitalization of historic garden along with conservation of historic buildings
• Improvement in visitors amenities and facilities
• Proposing innovative methods for revenue generation
• Preparing a Revitalization plan envisaging the historical character
